Grandma’s Gingerbread Favorite Recipe

This old-fashioned gingerbread is rewritten from grandma’s notebook. It is so perfect and smells amazing! It will take you around an hour and a half to make it. Delicious and ideal for the holidays, check out the recipe:

Grandma’s Gingerbread (Favorite Recipe)
Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup hot water
  • A pinch of salt

For garnish (optional):

  • Chocolate glaze
  • Icing sugar

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F/180°C/Gas Mark 4. Grease and flour a 9-in. square pan. Set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, beat together the butter and sugar. Whisk in the egg, and add in the molasses.
  • Next, in another bowl, sift together the flour, salt, baking soda, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger. Mix into the creamed mixture. Pour in the hot water and combine.
  • Spread into the prepared pan. Bake 60 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in pan.
  • Before serving, garnish with chocolate glaze and/or sprinkle some icing sugar (if desired). Then, slice and serve.
