Original Churros (11-Minute Recipe)

Churros are fried dough pastries – principally choux – based snack. Churro is popular in Spain, France, Portugal, the Philippines, the Southwestern United States, and Ibero-America. In Spain, churro could either be long and thick or thin. You will need 10 minutes to prepare them, plus 10 more to cook. Here is the original churros recipe:

Original Churros (11-Minute Dessert)

Servings 4

Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 quarts oil, for frying
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup sugar (or to taste)

  • In a small saucepan, over medium heat, combine 2 ½ tablespoons sugar, salt, water, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil and bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Add in flour until batter creates a ball.
  • In a deep skillet/deep-fryer, heat oil for frying to 375°F/ 190°C. Using a pastry bag, pipe strips of dough into hot oil and fry until golden; remove and drain on paper towels.
  • Next, combine sugar and cinnamon and roll the churros in the mixture. Serve.
